It’s a brand new year and we’re incredibly excited. We’re excited for a number of reasons, but mostly because it’s an excuse to check out some of the new (and some of the most traditional) things our great city of Houston has to offer. Being such a large city, it’s hard to visit all the great places, so we started you off with a short list of five things to check out in the New Year! You may have done some of these, but it’s a starting point to get out and enjoy the city a little more in 2020.
One of the best parts about our Galleria apartments Houston is that we are one of the most central neighborhoods. That means you’re not far from any of these noteworthy events and places to check out.
6 Things in Houston to Add to your Calendar in 2020:
Chevron Houston Marathon: Taking place January 19th this annual race starts in downtown Houston and goes through the entire city, including in and around the Houston Galleria. Although it’s full for the 2020 race, it’s a great event to find a spot and cheer on your fellow Houstonians. Did you know the first Houston Marathon took place in 1972 with only113 runners and nearly twice as many spectators? Ask any local – you’re either running it, watching it or cheering someone on, so on your mark, get set, GO! It’s a Houston event not to miss!
Bayou City Art Festival: This annual Houston event takes place March 27 – 29, 2020 and is definitely one to add to your calendar. It’s a great excuse to get outside with friends and family and check out Houston’s local art scene, and it’s close to our Galleria apartments. The Bayou City Art Festival takes place at Memorial Park and is one of Houston’s premier outdoor fine arts event showcasing 300+ national artists working in 19 artistic media. Check out the art, food trucks, entertainment and hopefully good weather while you’re at it!
MFAH: If you haven’t been to The Museum of Fine Arts lately (or maybe ever?), it’s definitely time to make it a priority! Our Houston Galleria apartments are located about 5.5 miles away from these world-class museums and exhibits. Be sure to check out the MFAH calendar of exhibits to see which ones you want to add to your calendar. Personally, we’re excited to check out The Dennis Freedman Collection, which runs February 14 – April 26, 2020, but there are so many to choose from. The Houston Museum District is one of the top-rated things to do in Houston, so be sure to check it out.
Art Car Parade: Join more than 250,000 spectators lining the streets of downtown Houston to catch a glimpse of this annual and beyond artistic parade. Here you’ll see an organized display of Houston’s most outlandish folk art creations on wheels. You may have seen a few of the cards throughout Houston before, but this is an event you won’t want to miss! The Fruit Mobile, a 1967 Ford station wagon, started the craze in 1986. Truly a sight to see, the parade is produced by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, and takes place April 16 – 19, 2020.
Rosalie Italian Soul: Located inside the C. Baldwin Hotel, this is chef Chris Cosentino’s first Houston restaurant. Here you can get a unique taste of Italian-American dishes with a wide range of tastes. According to the restaurant’s website, “Chris is co-owner of San Francisco’s celebrated Cockscomb restaurant, Jackrabbit at The Duniway in Portland, OR, and Acacia House at Las Alcobas, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Napa Valley.” It’s another hot Houston restaurant and about 7 miles from our Galleria apartments.
Rooftop Cinema Club: This great spot isn’t new, but if you haven’t been in a while (or ever), we think you should check it out. Located on top of BLVD Place Uptown, their sampling of movies makes for a great date night, an evening with friends or even a kid-friendly event to keep you entertained for a few hours. With its great Uptown Houston location, this is a fun and easy spot to add to your 2020 calendar, probably a few times!
